Erin Moreno Wichita KS Car Accident, Anthony Barrera Death – 42-year-old Erin Moreno of Wichita, Kansas has tragically passed away.
Erin Rowland Moreno was a native of Valley Center, Kansas and a resident of Wichita, Kansas. She was a former teacher at George Bannerman Dealey Montessori Academy and currently a 3rd Grade Teacher at Valley Center Public Schools, USD 262.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, a crash near Emporia on Saturday afternoon resulted in the death of a second person. When an SUV driven by 44-year-old Guerrero Moreno Jr. of Wichita collided with a semi driven by 39-year-old Stetson Cooley from North Little Pulas, Arkansas, Anthony Barrera, 17, and Erin Moreno, 42, perished.
Due to the Highway Patrol’s protected data policy, the names and ages of the three kids in the SUV were withheld. They were transported to Newman Regional Health for medical attention.
The specific cause of Saturday’s deadly collision in Emporia may never be revealed, but according to the Kansas Highway Patrol, an SUV and an adult were killed when a semi-truck rear-ended them.
According to troopers, 44-year-old Guerrero Moreno Jr. of Wichita was driving the SUV, and 39-year-old Stetson Cooley of North Little Pulas, Arkansas, was operating the semi.
At approximately 3:10 p.m., the collision occurred at Kansas Turnpike mile marker 134.4, which is two miles northeast of the Emporia service exit and seven miles northeast of the Emporia tollgate.
Both cars were traveling south at the time. The reason for the semi-truck colliding with the smaller car is not mentioned in the online crash log. Moreno was transferred to Newman Regional Health for treatment after appearing to have minor injuries; Cooley was unharmed.
Regretfully, Wichita resident Erin Moreno, 42, passed away approximately ninety minutes following the collision, and infant Anthony Barrera perished at the spot. In the SUV, three minors also suffered injuries. Their information is listed by the Highway Patrol as protected data, but Emporia Fire says they were brought to Newman Regional Health for care. For over five hours, southbound Turnpike traffic was diverted at the Admire exit, which is located 13 miles northeast of the incident scene, in order to facilitate emergency medical response and the crash investigation.
