YFN Lucci, American Rapper Death: A famous American Rapper and singer originally from Atlanta, Georgia has tragically passed away.
Family confirmed that the 33-year-old rapper known by his stage name YFN Lucci died unexpectedly on Wednesday, September 18, 2024. He was a father of three.
YFN Lucci-born Rayshawn Lamar Bennett was pronounced dead after an incident this morning. The tragic news was confirmed by his team “Think It’s A Game Entertainment.” The record label released a statement on Facebook; “Pray for us y’all, YFN Lucci, God bless your soul.”
Who Was YFN Lucci?
Rayshawn Lamar Bennett (born February 16, 1991), also known as YFN Lucci, was an American rapper and singer from Atlanta, Georgia. In 2014, he signed with Think It’s A Game Entertainment and released his debut mixtape, Wish Me Well, in December of that year.
His second mixtape, Wish Me Well 2 (2016), debuted on the Billboard 200, led by the tune “Key to the Streets” (featuring Migos and Trouble), his first Billboard Hot 100 hit.
What Happened To Rayshawn Lamar Bennett?
Rayshawn Lamar Bennett was rushed to the hospital following a medical emergency. He was confirmed dead at the hospital.
His debut extended play (EP), Long Live Nut (2017), reached number 27 on the list and produced the track “Everyday We Lit” (with PnB Rock), which peaked at number 33 on the Billboard Hot 100 and is still his highest-charting song. His first studio album, Ray Ray from Summerhill (2018), reached at number 14 on the Billboard 200.
In May 2021, he was apprehended after a nationwide manhunt and accused with 11 others in a RICO case. On January 23, 2024, Bennett pleaded guilty to one count of violation of Georgia’s Street Gang Terrorism and Prevention Act and was sentenced to serve 10 years in prison and 10 years on probation; he was credited for time served.
He grew up listening to rappers from Atlanta, like T.I. and Jeezy. He found his musical skill at the age of 16 and was urged to pursue it professionally by rapper Johnny Cinco. Lucci’s older brother, YFN KAY, is a rapper as well.
YFN Lucci Criminal Charges
On March 18, 2018, Anthony Cam aka Rackboy Cam, a New Jersey-based rapper, filed a complaint in U.S. District Court in Georgia against Bennett, PnB Rock, music producer June James (The Jenius), and Think It’s a Game Records (T.I.G.) alleging copyright infringement of the plaintiff’s 2016 song, “Everything Be Lit,” in Bennett’s 2017 song, “Everything We Lit”. In 2019, Bennett, T.I.G., and the plaintiff agreed on an undisclosed settlement. On March 2, 2021, Senior United States District Court Judge Charles Pannell declared a $1.7 million default.
After PnB Rock and James failed to reply to the action, Senior U.S. District Court Judge Charles Pannell granted the plaintiff a $1.7 million default award on March 2, 2021. On September 6, 2022, the Georgia Court of Appeals vacated the judgment, citing the plaintiff’s failure to properly serve James with the revised complaint submitted one month after the original. The matter was transferred to a lower court.
YFN Lucci Shooting
On January 12, 2021, warrants for Bennett’s arrest were issued in Atlanta, Georgia, charging him with the December 2020 shooting that killed a 28-year-old man and injured another, according to the Atlanta Police Department. Bennett, in addition to being a suspect in the shooting, was charged by the APD with “aggravated assault and participation in criminal street gang activity.” He was detained on January 13, 2021, after handing himself into the police. Bennett was released on house arrest after posting a $500,000 bond on February 8, 2021.
Bennett was indicted in May 2021 as one of twelve people in a 105-count RICO indictment issued by Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis. Bennett was charged with racketeering, breaking the state’s anti-gang law, and possessing a firearm during the commission of a felony. According to the Atlanta Police Department, Bennett belonged to a Bloods faction. Bennett’s lawyers said that the rapper was not guilty of any of the charges against him. On June 1, 2021, a Fulton County court refused Bennett’s bond. He agreed to a plea bargain and pleaded guilty on January 23, 2024. He was sentenced to 10 years in prison and 10 years on probation. His jail time was considered time served.
