Won Jang Dartmouth Student Death – The 20-year-old student from Dartmouth College’s body was found in the Connecticut River on Sunday, and the authorities are currently looking into the circumstances surrounding the apparent drowning.
According to a news statement from New Hampshire Fish and Game, Won Jang, a 2026 classmate from Middletown, Delaware, was reported missing by pals on Sunday when he did not show up for an engagement earlier that day.
According to Fish and Game, Jang was last seen on Saturday night at 9:30 p.m. while attending a social event at the docks close to the Ledyard Bridge on the Connecticut River. The Upper Valley experienced sporadic, heavy downpours of rain on Saturday night. Jang’s disappearance was reported to Hanover police only at 3:15 p.m. on Sunday.
Together with the Lebanon and Hartford fire departments and the fire department’s dive squad, they arrived at the scene. The State Police Marine Patrol and Fish and Game also provided assistance. According to authorities, the recovery crew found Jang’s body buried roughly 65 feet from the riverbank at 7:25 p.m. using underwater cameras.
The reason for Jang’s death was still officially unknown as of Monday, pending the state Medical Examiner’s Office’s conclusions. According to Hanover police, there is no suspicion of foul play based on the early investigation.
Nevertheless, based on information they obtained, Hanover Police Chief Charlie Dennis stated that investigators are looking into the possibility that Jang’s death was related to fraternity “hazing.”
The Dartmouth community was notified about Jang’s passing by Dean of the College Scott Brown. Jang was a biomedical engineering major and member of the Beta Alpha Omega fraternity. He had been the class valedictorian at his Delaware high school.
