According to reports, Yen Pham of Melbourne died by suicide. The incident prompted the principal to urge parents to stay ‘connected’ to their children in the wake of the tragedy.

On Thursday afternoon, Wesley College Principal Nick Evans sent an email to parents of students at the prestigious Melbourne school, sharing some unfortunate news that had impacted the school community.

In his message, Mr. Evans conveyed the school’s deepest condolences and sympathy, emphasizing their solidarity with the affected child’s family and friends during this difficult time.

“Today and over the coming weeks, you may be concerned about your young person’s reaction or expression of feelings about this news, even at some remove. We also encourage you to let your young person know that you are aware of the incident and that you will listen to their concerns at any time they wish to share them.”

He reassured parents and students that the school was providing necessary support and counseling services to those in need. Mr. Evans encouraged anyone feeling the impact to seek help and reaffirmed the school’s commitment to the well-being of its students, asking the community to keep the child’s family and friends in their thoughts and prayers.

Principal Nick Evans emphasized two important messages for parents to promote: first, that people should ask for help when feeling down or vulnerable, and second, that students should inform an adult if they are concerned about a friend. Following the tragedy, other schools around Melbourne, such as Carey Grammar, also offered support to their students who might be feeling distressed.
