Wayland State Route 63 Accident: 18-year-old died in fatal motorcycle crash, police investigate

Wayland State Route 63 Accident — On the evening of September 12, 2024, a tragic accident claimed the life of an 18-year-old male in a fatal motorcycle crash on State Route 63.

Troopers from SP Wayland responded to the scene, where the young man’s motorcycle collided with a car in the town of Wayland.

The preliminary investigation by State Police revealed that the 18-year-old, operating a 2007 Chappy Yamaha motorcycle, was traveling southbound on State Route 63.

The motorcyclist attempted to pass an uninvolved vehicle in a no-passing zone. Unfortunately, this risky maneuver resulted in a head-on collision with a 2015 Kia Sorento heading northbound. The Kia was driven by Helen Bertalon, age 73, of Dansville, NY.

The impact of the crash caused the young motorcyclist to be ejected from his vehicle. Emergency responders pronounced him deceased at the scene. Bertalon was transported to UR Medicine Noyes Hospital by the Springwater-Wayland ambulance, where she was treated for minor injuries.

State Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of passing in restricted zones and the critical importance of adhering to traffic laws.

No further details about the identity of the deceased have been released pending notification of family members.
