Waltham Stabbing Death – The Metropolitan Police has launched a murder investigation after the incident, which took place at about 3pm on Saturday, in Lea Bridge Road, Waltham Forest.
The man died at the scene despite the best efforts of emergency services. No arrests have been made, but a knife has been recovered.
Acting Superintendent Jack Callaghan described the stabbing as a “violent attack” and said there would be more police officers in the area over the coming days. Officers are also appealing for anyone with information to come forward.
Images shared on social media site X appeared to show a cordon and forensics teams around several local businesses, including restaurants and a barber shop. Detective Chief Inspector Linda Bradley said: “My team is working around the clock to establish exactly what happened and what led to a man tragically losing his life.”
She added: “While we have spoken with a number of witnesses, we need to hear from anyone who saw the suspect running away. “Where did he go? If you were driving in the area and have a dash cam, please review the footage in case you captured something that can help us.
“In addition, we strongly believe that people in the area may have information which could assist the investigation and we implore you to make contact with us and tell us what you know.”
The victim has not been formally identified but their family is being supported by specialist officers.
