Tracy Ayers Death: An Atlanta, Georgia resident who worked as an Epidemiologist at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has passed away. Tracy Ayers died suddenly following a medical emergency.

She was a graduate of Georgia State University, Florida State University, where she was a Research Assistant, and Jacksonville University where she studied Geography, Sociology, and Photography. Ayer was pronounced dead in the presence of her loved ones.
In 2018, Ayer -who resided on 1600 Clifton Rd, Atlanta, GA- joined the CDC to research acute flaccid myelitis and its causes. Dr. Tracy Ayers (PhD, ’16) is part of the CDC’s team of epidemiologists and microbiologists who are gathering information regarding acute flaccid myelitis and investigating its potential causes.
Ayers served as an officer in the CDC’s Epidemic Intelligence Service for eight years, completing an elite two-year disease detective training program. She visited Arizona, which had a cluster of instances of acute flaccid myelitis in 2016 when the disease was also on the rise nationally.
Ayers interviewed young patients and their parents to learn about the illness’s onset and the progression of their symptoms. Recovery can be delayed, and in some circumstances, children may continue to experience severe symptoms up to two years after being ill.
