Fort Lauderdale Shooting Investigation – Violence erupted early Saturday morning in Fort Lauderdale, leaving one person dead and three others injured after gunfire tore through a neighborhood near Cypress Creek Road.
The incident occurred around 5:05 a.m. in the 600 block of NW 62nd Street, close to Powerline Road and North Andrews Avenue.
Fort Lauderdale Police and Fire Rescue units rushed to the scene, discovering three men inside a bullet-riddled black Honda Civic. All three men suffered gunshot wounds and were transported to Broward Health Medical Center.
One of the victims was pronounced dead upon arrival, while the other two remain hospitalized with life-threatening injuries. A fourth victim, who was not struck by gunfire, was also taken to the hospital as a precaution.
7News captured footage showing the bullet-riddled Civic, with several evidence markers on the ground, as K-9 units and officers swarmed the area. A nearby resident, shaken by the violence, commented, “You never know when you go out of your house if you’re ever going to come back. Sometimes here it’s kind of dangerous.”
The Fort Lauderdale Police Department has yet to identify a suspect or motive behind the shooting. As the investigation continues, authorities have closed off portions of the thoroughfare between Powerline Road and North Andrews Avenue. Traffic has been rerouted, with drivers advised to use Commercial Boulevard or West McNab Road.
Detective Ali Adamson, the spokesperson for the Fort Lauderdale Police Department, is urging the public to come forward with any information that may assist in identifying the shooter. Anonymous tips can be directed to the police at 954-828-5700 or Broward County Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS, with a reward of up to $5,000 for valuable leads.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) has also joined the investigation, appealing for any information regarding the individuals involved or those supplying firearms to felons.
