TJ Maxx Shooting Today – One person was shot outside of TJ Maxx Saturday afternoon, according to the Quincy Police Department.
Police reported that a disagreement happened inside the TJ Maxx which then continued outside and led to a shooting in the parking lot at 2:27 p.m.
Police said two subjects have been detained and the shooting was targeted. They said there is no active shooter. Witnesses are reporting that it was a man who was shot. The man was taken to Blessing Hospital, but police could not give a status on his injuries.
Quincy resident Jamye Hively said she was exiting Petco as a man was running at her. She side-stepped and continued walking to her car, and that’s when she heard gunshots. Hively exited her vehicle and then went to assist the victim.
“It effects me because I have young kids,” Hively said. “I have an 11-year-old, I have a 4-year-old, it’s scary not knowing when you go shopping what is going to happen. The extracurriculars, is something just going to spark someone’s anger and cause them to go off? I mean, we don’t know.”
Quincy resident Joe Fowler had just arrived at Prairie Crossing Shopping Center when the shooting happened. Fowler and two others who were with him were getting a wheelchair out of their vehicle when the shots were fired.
“I watched one of the kids run over to the Petco store, didn’t see any weapons in his hand, and the other kid came running right past us right next to our vehicle so I had the girls lay down in case he was armed,” Fowler said.
What was supposed to be a regular afternoon of shopping turned into Fowler also helping the victim.
“I saw he didn’t have any guns and checked where he ran, checked the vehicles around the area to see where they were and seen where the kid went and realized he had laid down and there was blood around him,” Fowler said.
TJ Maxx is closed for the rest of the day and store representatives said the plan is to reopen tomorrow, but that could change. Petco is open to the public. The portion of parking lot in front of the stores is blocked off.
