Steven Stewart Waterville, OH Obituary – Steven Stewart, the former North Baltimore School District Treasurer, has died by suicide, according to authorities.
His death occurred last weekend, shortly after facing federal charges related to financial misconduct during his tenure.
Court records indicate that Stewart was charged with Making and Subscribing False Tax Returns and Program Fraud, with charges filed on January 22, 2025.
The investigation began nearly two years ago, leading to Stewart’s resignation from the school district in May 2023 after being placed on leave due to financial irregularities.
Prosecutors allege that Stewart withdrew $17,500 in cash from the district’s account on September 30, 2020, and used school funds to purchase a $75,000 Ford F-150 truck on August 7, 2022. Additionally, Stewart was accused of underreporting over $450,000 of income on his tax returns across four years.
North Baltimore School District Superintendent Ryan Delaney confirmed that law enforcement officials searched the district office as part of the investigation. At the time, Stewart declined to comment, citing legal advice.
Stewart’s arraignment was scheduled for February 21. His sudden death marks the tragic conclusion of a case that has deeply impacted the local community.
