Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Investigation
Sheriff’s detectives Wednesday are investigating the fatal stabbing of a woman who was found inside a house in South Pasadena. No suspects are in custody, and no descriptions have been released as of this updated report.
Investigators have yet to determine whether the killing was part of a robbery or another incident. Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department homicide detectives are on the case. As of 12:30 a.m. Wednesday, neighbors reported seeing the South Pasadena police chief Solinsky still at the scene, with LASD homicide detectives conducting a thorough investigation inside and outside the property. The body remained inside the home, and the street was blocked off as police continued their work.
Neighbours’ Statement
Neighbours observing from nearby described a tense and somber atmosphere. One neighbor said police questioned the victim’s adult grandchildren and noted that the back door of the home had been open all night. Earlier, a South Pasadena Fire Dept. paramedic was seen entering with a defibrillator but exited shortly after. The power was reportedly off on the victim’s floor of the building.
Another neighbour, who returned home around 8:30 p.m., recounted seeing police arrive as he came back from the grocery store. News crews from NBC and Channel 9 were also present, seeking information from LASD’s public information officer. LASD has not released a report to the public yet.
The victim, described as an elderly woman, had lived alone in the well-maintained property for many years. The upstairs unit had been vacant for about two years. She was known to have two adult grandchildren, a granddaughter and a grandson, who used to live with her.
Further accounts from a neighbor across the way mentioned hearing police officers in the back of the building yelling for someone to come out of the second floor, with their guns drawn, adding to the tension of the night.
The investigation is ongoing, and police are urging anyone with information to come forward. More on this as information becomes available. Check back.
