Smyth County Sheriff’s Office Incident: 1 deputy died, 3 hurt in Smyth, VA, double officer-involved shooting
Prayers have been requested for the entire Smyth County Sheriff’s Office following the shooting death of one deputy in the line of duty Friday afternoon. According to law enforcement agencies, two deputies with the Smyth County Sheriff’s Office were shot in the 1700 block of Highway 16.
According to investigators, one deputy passed away at the scene from a gunshot wound to the head. A second deputy was transported by air in critical condition. One suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.
A 65-year-old man was transported to the hospital with multiple gunshot wounds. A second male in his 30s was transported with gunshot wounds to his upper torso and scapula.
