SEPTA Fatal Shooting: 17-year-old killed, 4 others injured after shooting at SEPTA bus stop in North Philadelphia
A 17-year-old was fatally shot, and four others were injured in a shooting at a SEPTA bus stop Monday afternoon in North Philadelphia.
Deputy Commissioner Frank Vanore stated that at 3:44 p.m. near Borad and Godfrey, a group of 15-20 school-aged kids were at a bus stop when two individuals approached and began shooting as they boarded.
The 17-year-old sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 3:53 p.m.
A 15-year-old sustained a graze wound to the right shoulder, while another 15-year-old suffered a graze wound to the buttocks.
Both were taken to the hospital and are in stable condition. Additionally, a 49-year-old woman was grazed in the forearm, and a 71-year-old woman was shot in the head while inside the bus.
They were also transported to the hospital and are in stable condition.
The shooting occurred on the SEPTA Route 6 bus near 16th and Champlost Street.
Police suspect this was a targeted shooting. At the scene, multiple police vehicles were present, and the bus, stopped nearby, displayed multiple bullet holes through one of its windows.
The 49-year-old and the 71-year-old were innocent bystanders, shot through the window of the bus, which police believe slowed down the bullets. Deputy Commissioner Vanore mentioned that the two suspects fled the scene.
Additionally, police were observed at Godfrey and Ogontz Avenue, where they had the intersection blocked off.
Numerous markers on the ground indicated the presence of over a dozen bullet casings.
Vanore emphasized the ongoing effort to combat such violence, stating, “Homicides are down but at the end of the day that’s not good enough.”
In the wake of this tragic incident, we extend our deepest condolences to the families affected by this heart-wrenching loss. As they grapple with the indescribable pain of bidding farewell to their loved ones, we share in their sorrow and stand in solidarity during this time of profound grief.
