Rutgers University Today: In the early hours of Friday morning, a shooting incident just blocks away from student housing at Rutgers University resulted in injuries to two individuals associated with the New Jersey school.
The shooting took place shortly after 2 a.m. at the intersection of Easton Avenue and Hamilton Street in New Brunswick, apparently stemming from an altercation.
Police responded to find a male victim, described as “affiliated with Rutgers University,” suffering from gunshot wounds. He was promptly transported to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, as reported by RLS Media.
According to eyewitnesses, the unidentified victim engaged in a verbal dispute with a suspect, who approached him in a vehicle. Allegedly, the victim’s actions provoked the suspect to open fire, leading to multiple gunshots before the assailant fled the scene, as detailed by RLS Media.
A nearby female resident, also reportedly affiliated with the university, was struck by a stray bullet during the incident.
Both victims are currently receiving medical treatment for their injuries at the university hospital, according to police statements.
Details regarding the conditions of the victims or their specific roles within the university community remain unclear at this time.
Efforts to gather more information are underway, with the New Brunswick Police Department actively searching for the suspect. However, authorities note that the description of the perpetrator(s) is currently limited.
Law enforcement urges anyone with knowledge about the shooting to come forward and assist in the ongoing investigation.
