Dr. Pick earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree in 1980, followed by a Certificate of Residency in Periodontics and a Master of Science Degree in 1982, all from Northwestern University Dental School. As a Board Certified Periodontist, Dr. Pick was committed to advancing the field of periodontics and implant dentistry.
He held positions as a Clinical Associate Professor of Surgery at Northwestern University Medical School and was an attending staff member at Northwestern Memorial Hospital.
Academically, he was a sought-after lecturer, sharing his expertise both nationally and internationally on topics such as practice management, internet utilization in dentistry, and advancements in periodontal and implant treatments.
Dr. Pick’s contributions to the literature include numerous scientific articles and co-editing the text “Lasers in Dentistry,” highlighting his role in pioneering laser applications in dental procedures. Christensen Outstanding Lecturer Recognition Award.
Beyond his professional life, Dr. Pick demonstrated remarkable personal resilience. In August 1998, he faced a life-threatening health crisis when he was diagnosed with an aggressive adenocarcinoma of the appendix. Despite a prognosis of less than six months to live, Dr. Pick underwent an intensive 14-month regimen of experimental chemotherapy and radiation therapy.
Throughout this challenging period, he maintained his commitment to his patients, rarely missing a day of work except for hospital visits. His determination and positive outlook served as an inspiration to colleagues and patients alike.
Dr. Pick’s sudden passing is a significant loss to the dental community and the many patients whose lives he touched.
