RMU Student Accident – An 18-year-old woman, who was a student-athlete at Robert Morris University, was killed in a crash in Washington County on Sunday morning.
The crash happened a little after 3 a.m. on Interstate 70 near the West Virginia state line. The Washington County coroner said Kaylee Ogea, of Shawboro, North Carolina, lost control of her vehicle, which then rolled over.
She was taken to UPMC Washington Hospital, where she died of her injuries. RMU said she was a rising sophomore and a member of the rowing team.
In a statement, university President Michelle Patrick said, “Kaylee’s dedication, leadership, and spirit were evident in all that she did. Kaylee’s loss is felt deeply by all who had the privilege of knowing her.”
The school said Ogea was also an ROTC cadet, part of the Women’s Leadership and Mentorship Program and a member of the women’s Division II hockey team. The coroner said it was unknown if Ogea was wearing a seat belt.
