The incident unfolded late Tuesday evening, with officers responding to reports of gunfire at approximately 9:11 p.m. Upon arrival, they discovered two male victims suffering from gunshot wounds.

One victim was rushed to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries, while the second, identified as 24-year-old Remonds Delbridge, was found unresponsive and pronounced dead at the scene.

The shooting has sent shockwaves through the Arcadia Avenue neighborhood, with residents expressing fear and frustration over the violence. “This is supposed to be a quiet area,” said one neighbor. “It’s terrifying to think something like this could happen so close to home.”

In a surprising turn of events, Animal Control officers were called to the scene and removed at least five dogs from the property. While the exact circumstances surrounding the animals’ presence remain unclear, authorities have confirmed they are safe and being cared for. The involvement of Animal Control has added another layer of complexity to the ongoing investigation.

The Portsmouth Police Department has not yet released information about potential suspects or a motive for the shooting. Detectives are working tirelessly to piece together the events leading up to the incident, interviewing witnesses and reviewing surveillance footage from the area. “We are committed to finding those responsible and bringing them to justice,” said a spokesperson for the department. “We urge anyone with information to come forward.”

As the community mourns the loss of Remonds Delbridge and prays for the recovery of the injured victims, calls for increased safety measures and community support have grown louder. A candlelight vigil is being planned to honor Delbridge’s memory and stand in solidarity against violence.
