Port Aransas police are investigating the death of a 71-year-old woman whose body was discovered floating in shallow water along the Port Aransas beach on Wednesday, August 14.
Preliminary signs suggest a possible drowning, but the official cause of death remains undetermined.
Officers responded to a call from a beachgoer at approximately 1:25 p.m. near Mile Marker 19, after the woman’s body was spotted floating close to the shore. Authorities moved the body out of the surf and onto dry land.
Police confirmed there were no prior reports of a distressed swimmer, and no signs of trauma were found on the woman’s body. It is believed she was visiting the beach alone and entered the water shortly before her death.
Investigators suspect that a medical episode may have contributed to the incident. Further details will be provided as the investigation continues.
