Matthew Forand passed away suddenly, leaving a huge gap in the MA firefighting community.
Every since he was confirmed dead, friends and loved ones have not failed to show love, express their grief and offer support to all those affected. He died leaving a huge mark on the lives of many people who knew him during the course of his life.
Firefighter Matthew Forand was found this dead at Station 9 in New Bedford. He was just 45 years old at the time of his death. In 2006, FF Forand received the medal of valor, after saving a person from the second story of a burning building. Fire officials are not sure what caused his death. More details will be revealed soon.
He received the Medal of Valor at the 2014 Firefighter of the Year Awards for rescuing an unconscious occupant from the second floor of a burning building on Dartmouth Street. He also received a Unit Citation as a member of Engine Co. 6 for his efforts battling the Royal Crown Apartment fire in March 2023.
Matt, who is 45 years old, completed his training at the New Bedford Firefighting Academy in 2006. He was assigned to Engine Co. 9 most recently. For his commitment to the residents of New Bedford, he was bestowed with multiple accolades.
The individual in question received the Medal of Valor at the 2014 Firefighter of the Year Awards in recognition of their efforts to save an unconscious person from the second story of a burning building on Dartmouth Street. He also received a Unit Citation for his efforts extinguishing the March 2023 fire at the Royal Crown Apartment as a member of Engine Co. 6.
