Maryland I-495 Accident – Maryland State Police are investigating a fatal two-vehicle crash that occurred on the Outer Loop of Interstate 495 at Route 50 in Prince George’s County on Sunday night, September 15.
The crash left one man dead and four others hospitalized.
Ayuk Etta, 40, of Lanham, has been identified as the deceased. He was pronounced dead at the scene by Prince George’s County Fire/EMS personnel. Etta had been outside his vehicle at the time of the accident.
The crash, reported around 8:50 p.m., involved a 2016 Honda Pilot and a 2018 Mercedes sedan. Preliminary findings suggest the Honda Pilot, traveling northbound on I-495, lost control and struck the rear of the stationary Mercedes, which was stopped on the left shoulder.
In the Mercedes, two passengers, Miranda Nembo, 39, and Mayah Nembo, 24, were transported to the University of Maryland Capital Region Medical Center but have since been released. The exact nature of their relationship to Etta or each other has not been confirmed.
The Honda Pilot was occupied by five male friends from Prince George’s County. The driver, Biruk Grimes, 19, and two passengers, ages 18 and 19, declined medical attention. Two other occupants, Olauwadamilola Fatokun, 18, and a 17-year-old, were taken to Luminis Health Doctors Community Medical Center for treatment.
The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash is ongoing.
