Mario County Crash – Multiple people were killed in a crash involving a migrant bus in Marion County Tuesday morning, according to authorities. Authorities have shutdown a major roadway in Marion County as they respond to a deadly crash involving a bus on Tuesday morning.
This developing story will be updated as more information is learned. Florida Highway Patrol troopers say a bus with 53 people on board on State Road 40 between Ocala and Dunnellon around 6:30 a.m.
Troopers say the bus was carrying “migrant workers” to a watermelon farm. A total of eight individuals perished in the collision, while an additional eight individuals are still in a serious state.
Furthermore, a further 37 individuals were transported to the hospital with injuries that do not pose a risk to their lives. Officials utilized a Marion County Public Schools bus to convey injured individuals from the collision site to the hospital.
There were no children present or injured in the incident; the school bus was solely utilized for assistance. The section of SR 40 between U.S. Highway 41 and West County Road 328 is currently inaccessible.
The closure is anticipated to endure for an extended duration as troopers conduct an investigation. To take a detour and go eastbound on SR 40, travellers should go northbound on US 41 until they reach West CR 328.
From there, they can continue eastbound on West CR 328 until they reach SR 40. To travel in the westbound direction on SR 40, drivers should proceed westbound on West CR 328 until they reach US 41. From there, they should continue southbound on US 41 until they reach SR 40.
