Mack T. Hines Florence SC Death – Mack T. Hines, a former South Carolina Rep. and Florence native has died at age 77. Mack was a Florence native.

“Rep. Hines served from 1995-2005 advocating tirelessly for the people of Florence and Marion counties,” Isaac Wilson said. “His dedication and commitment to public service set a standard that inspired many.”

Hines graduated from Allen University with a bachelor of arts in 1969 and then from Morris College School of Religion with a bachelor of divinity, according to the South Carolina State House. He started his career as a teacher with Florence 1 School District, where he worked for 12 years.

The South Carolina General Assembly passed a resolution in 2005 to honor Hines after he received his doctorate of ministry from Hood Theological Seminary. “As we mourn his loss, let us also remember the legacy of service and the positive influence he had on our county and state,” Wilson said.

“His contributions will continue to guide us as we work towards a brighter future for all. We extend our deepest condolences to his family and loved ones during this difficult time.”

A native of Florence County, Reverend Dr. Mack T. Hines was a distinguished academic achiever, holding a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Allen University, a Bachelor of Divinity Degree from the former Morris College School of Religion, a Doctor of Ministry Degree from Hood Theological Seminary, and an Honorary Doctor of Divinity Degree from Morris College. His outstanding leadership in South Carolina earned him a place in the Morris College Hall of Fame.

Beyond academia, Reverend Dr. Hines was deeply committed to serving his community. He dedicated 12 years as an educator in Florence School District 1 and chaired the Wilsonian Clergy, organizing ministerial alumni of Wilson High School to support academically excellent students in financial crisis.

Governor Mark Sanford recognized his service with the Order of the Palmetto in 2006 after his 12-year tenure representing District 59 in the South Carolina House of Representatives.
