I-78 Accident – A Brooklyn, New York man, Jamal Linton, 35, was arrested on multiple charges following a wrong-way crash on I-78 in Lehigh County, Pennsylvania.
The crash occurred at 4:40 a.m. on Sunday when Linton’s vehicle, traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes, collided head-on with another car. The incident took place in Upper Macungie Township, sending two individuals to the hospital.
According to Pennsylvania State Police, the 66-year-old driver of the other vehicle, an Allentown resident, suffered serious injuries. His car was severely damaged, torn in half due to the force of the crash. Linton, who was also injured, now faces charges including DUI, reckless driving, resisting arrest, and recklessly endangering another person.
Court documents reveal that responding officers detected the smell of alcohol on Linton, who attempted to discard a blue liquor bottle into nearby woods. When questioned, Linton appeared disoriented and, after being asked about the bottle, attempted to flee on foot.
In an effort to prevent him from running into traffic, officers deployed a stun gun, but Linton continued to resist, climbing over a concrete barrier before a second stun gun deployment subdued him.
After a brief struggle with officers, Linton was handcuffed and taken into custody. The crash forced the closure of I-78 for over two hours as authorities responded to the scene.
Both drivers were transported to local hospitals for treatment. The Pennsylvania State Police continue to investigate the incident.
