Dukic’s team raised an alarm when he failed to surface, prompting immediate action from organizers. A dive team was deployed to search for the missing athlete in Marine Creek Lake.
Social media reports indicate that Dukic was leading the competition before the tragic event occurred. The CrossFit community is in shock as the search for the athlete continues.
The incident occurred at Marine Creek Lake, near the Tarrant County College Northwest campus. Emergency services were called to the scene around 8 a.m. after reports of a drowning. Despite rescue efforts, Dukic was pronounced dead.
CrossFit CEO Don Faul expressed deep sorrow on behalf of the organization and extended condolences to the athlete’s family and friends. The remaining events scheduled for the day were immediately canceled as the community grapples with the loss.
The decision on whether to continue the Games over the weekend has yet to be made. The swim portion of the competition was open to spectators and took place away from the main event at Dickies Arena.
