Laurel Double Shooting – New details are coming about the double shooting that took place at an apartment complex in Laurel on Friday.
According to Jones County Coroner Burl Hall, the victim has been identified as Kendale Hunter.
The victim’s body will be sent to the Mississippi State Crime Lab for an autopsy.
According to the Laurel Police Department, the suspect in the shooting, identified as 29-year-old Deion Dobbins, is facing a murder charge as one of the victims has died, along with facing a kidnapping charge after learning he took a 2-year-old child from the scene.
The police department has confirmed that a male victim was pronounced dead after being transported to South Central Regional Medical Center by EMServ Ambulance Service.
LPD said the shootings occurred at the Shadowood Park Apartments on Old Army Road.
Laurel Police Chief Tommy Cox said officers responded to the scene and found a woman suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to the side. As officers were rendering aid, they heard gunshots from around the corner. They investigated the gunshots and found a second victim with more severe injuries.
Cox said the first victim was able to give officers information that helped them identify Dobbins as the suspect.
Officers later found the suspect sitting in a vehicle still on the premises with a child in the backseat. They were able to take the suspect into custody without further incident, and the child was recovered in good condition.
EMServ Ambulance Service transported both victims to SCRMC, where the male victim later died.

The Jones County Sheriff’s Department assisted both at the scene of the shootings and with other emergency calls in the city of Laurel while LPD officers were handling the active investigation.
