Keith Drury Career
Keith Drury dedicated 52 years of his life to the ministry, holding various esteemed roles within The Wesleyan Church for a quarter century until 1996. Following this, he transitioned into the academic realm, serving as an Associate Professor of Practical Ministry at both Indiana Wesleyan University and Wesley Seminary, a institution he played a pivotal role in establishing.
In 2012, he retired from his teaching career, earning the title of Professor Emeritus. Throughout his lifetime, Drury was a prolific writer, penning over a dozen published books along with numerous columns, articles, and educational materials.
However, he is best remembered for his influential work, “Holiness for Ordinary People,” which continues to resonate with readers across generations. Beyond his literary contributions, Drury wore many hats — from teacher and speaker to leader and mentor. Yet despite his multifaceted roles, he humbly preferred to be addressed simply as “Coach” by the thousands of students he inspired.
Drury’s journey into ministry began in Warren, Pa., where he was born to a pastor and district superintendent. Initially aspiring to become a forest ranger, his path took a divine turn when he felt called to the ministry during his freshman year of college.
After serving as a pastor in both rural Pennsylvania and suburban New Jersey, he transitioned into roles within The Wesleyan Church headquarters, focusing on Christian education and youth leadership.
During his tenure, Drury held various positions including Director of Midweek Clubs, Assistant General Director of Youth, and General Director of Youth, among others. His dedication to empowering young adults through initiatives like YES CORPS, a mission-focused endeavor, left a lasting impact on the Wesleyan community.
