Adam State University basketball player Kayla Harris of Colorado tragically passed away after a fatal shooting in Las Vegas on Monday, June 24th, 2024.
The school announced her death through a publication stating, “The Adams State University campus community mourns the loss of graduate student Kayla Harris.”
The incident occurred when a man suspected of a shooting that left five people dead and critically wounded a teenage girl in North Las Vegas died by suicide after being tracked down by officers on Tuesday morning.
Police responded to reports of a shooting at an apartment just after 10 p.m. on Monday and discovered two wounded women in their early 40s and late 50s who were later pronounced dead.
A 13-year-old girl with critical injuries was also found and taken to the University Medical Center in Las Vegas. In another nearby apartment, three more victims—a man in his early 20s and two women in their mid-20s—were found dead at the scene.
The identities of the five victims will be disclosed by the Clark County Coroner’s Office. However, attempts to reach them for comment were unsuccessful.
Eric Adams, aged 47, was identified as the suspect in the killings. On Tuesday morning, officers received information about Adams’ location. The Criminal Apprehension team located him armed with a firearm as he fled into the backyard of a residence. Despite verbal commands from officers to drop his weapon, Adams ignored them and ultimately died by suicide.
The investigation is being assisted by the Las Vegas police Force Investigation Team while no further details or motive for the shooting have been disclosed yet. Additional information regarding this “overall investigation” will be released at a later time according to police statements made on Tuesday afternoon.
