Jyilek Harrington Charleston NC Death — A fatal shooting on Wednesday night has left the Charleston community reeling after the death of 21-year-old Jyilek Harrington, a senior at West Virginia State University (WVSU).
According to the Charleston Police Department, officers responded to a disturbance call in the 700 block of Regency Drive, where multiple gunshots were reported.
Upon their arrival, they discovered Harrington suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite efforts by first responders to save his life, Harrington was pronounced dead at the scene.
Harrington, a recent transfer to WVSU from his hometown of Charlotte, North Carolina, was an integral part of the university’s football team. Playing as an inside linebacker, he had quickly built a reputation as a dedicated athlete and was known for his strong work ethic on and off the field.
Charleston Fire Department personnel arrived shortly after the police and attempted to administer life-saving measures. Despite their best efforts, they were unable to revive Harrington.
