Justin Bingham, CEO of Utah-based software company ‘Opiniion’ died in canyoneering accident- Lindon, Cedar Hills families mourn

Justin Bingham, CEO of Utah Death: The CEO of Utah-based software company “Opiniion”, Justin Bingham, has tragically passed away. The father of four died in a canyoneering accident on Monday, October 7, 2024. He was 41.

Justin Bingham was a resident of Cedar Hills, Utah, originally from Sandy, Utah. He was a dedicated father to Turin, identical twins Ashton and Landon, and Ava. “The hardest thing to share with others is loss.

No words feel worthy, no sentiment enough. Today is no exception. Doing what he loved this weekend, Justin Bingham, our CEO, was involved in a canyoneering incident that, despite the quick responses of various emergency teams, resulted in his untimely passing,” Opiniion said in a statement.

At Opiniion, Justin was more than just our CEO. He was a friend, a mentor, an example of hard work and above all, he was family. Justin knew each of us by name and made a point when he came into the office to say hello to everyone individually, every single day.

We never doubted his love for us and for those with whom he was associated. We will always remember his optimism, his kindness, and the hard work that brought Opiniion to where it is today.

The deadly incident happened over the weekend on Saturday. “It is with deep sadness that Opiniion announces the passing of our CEO, Justin Bingham. Justin was involved in a tragic accident while enjoying one of his greatest passions—exploring the outdoors. Despite the best efforts of over 50 team members of various rescue teams, he passed away on the night of Saturday, Oct 5, 2024.”

Justin was a visionary who believed in the power of genuine connections, both with our clients and within our team. His commitment to building meaningful relationships made a lasting impact on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. Justin’s spirit of adventure and dedication to living life fully will be deeply missed.

In light of this loss, Devin Shurtleff, our co-founder and current Chief Operating Officer, will step into the role of interim CEO. Devin has been a core part of our leadership team since day one and will ensure that Opiniion continues to operate smoothly, honoring Justin’s legacy and commitment to our clients. “If you spent any time around him, he was the eternal optimist. ‘Everything is always going to work out.’ He told me so many times…. But he was right and it usually did,” said Devin, President and COO. “Justin wasn’t just a leader here at Opiniion—he was a mentor, a dad, and a friend to many of us. He believed that the relationships we build are what make this work meaningful, and he truly lived that every day.”
