John Garland Smith Casper, WY, resident ‘Big John’, 49, died unexpectedly on June 24

John Garland Smith Death – John Garland Smith, ‘Big John’, 49, of Casper, Wyoming, died unexpectedly on June 24, 2024, after what medical authorities suspected to be a heart attack or stroke. His passing is absolutely unexpected, and his family is deeply upset.

Consuelo (Davis) Smith and Michael J Smith gave birth to John on April 1, 1975, in Cheyenne, Wyoming. He was one of four children, including his older sister Micole and younger sisters Stephanie and Meghan.

By high school, ‘Big John’ had grown to 6’4″. John went on to earn his Journeyman Electrician License and enjoyed a long and successful career at Modern Electric.

Who was John Garland Smith?
He was pleased of his employment, which brought him through Wyoming and other states. John married Destiny Goodspeed on September 19, 1997, and they have two children, Ethen and Cedar Smith. He was an excellent father and wonderful being. John exemplified strength, honesty, and perseverance.

John’s passion for his pets had a significant role in his life. He enjoyed daily hikes in Morad Park and was devoted to his two border collies, Chevelle and Nova. In addition to his dogs, John enjoyed spending time outside.

He was an avid fly fisherman and enjoyed taking his family camping whenever feasible. In December 2017, John faced the most difficult test of his life: he suffered a stroke. He lost much of his talent on his right side and was forced to resign from numerous activities in life.

Despite these challenges, he shown remarkable determination and fortitude. He was constantly working to improve at Elkhorn Valley Rehabilitation Hospital. John was also an enthusiastic member of Hilltop Baptist Church, where he enjoyed Bible studies and worship services.

His leaving comes as a huge shock and leaves a deep wound that affects his entire family as well as numerous others across the neighborhood. John’s father, Michael J Smith, died first.

He is survived by his wife, Destiny Smith; two boys, Ethen Smith and Cedar (Taylor) Smith; his mother, Consuelo N Smith; three sisters, Micole Smith, Meghan (Sam) Gale, and Stephanie (Cameron Wagner) Smith; and four nephews and one niece.

John’s memorial service will be conducted on Wednesday, July 3, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at Hilltop Baptist Church (2555 E 2nd St., Casper, WY).
