Jimmy James Death:- British-Jamaican soul singer Jimmy James affectionately known to many as Michael James has passed away. He was announced dead today, Tuesday, the 14th of May 2024. Jimmy James and the Vagabonds lead singer Jimmy James died at the age of 83. “Great memories from working with this genuinely lovely man. You will be missed.”

Who was Jimmy James?
Jimmy James whose realname is Michael James was born on the 13th of September 1940 in Jamaica. He was a perfect example of what it means to be a wonderful person. Jimmy had a calming presence and was extremely kind, he touched the hearts of so many and was an inspiration to everyone who knew him.

Jimmy James Career
James began his music career in Kingston, Jamaica, where he recorded as a solo artist, achieving local success with “Come to Me Softly”. In 1964, he teamed up with The Vagabonds and relocated to the UK. They recorded “Ska-Time,” one of the earliest Jamaican ska records made in the UK. The band gained attention supporting acts like The Who and Rod Stewart, sharing bills with Jimi Hendrix’s Experience.

They signed with Pye Records, releasing “The New Religion” in 1966 and becoming known for their energetic live performances. After disbanding in 1970, James formed a new lineup in 1973, achieving hits like “I’ll Go Where Your Music Takes Me” and “Now Is the Time”.

They recorded “Disco Fever” in 1976. Various former members pursued different ventures, such as Alan Wood managing Paul Carrack and forming Big Business. Drummer Russ Courtenay co-wrote a track for Tina Turner in 1999.

James remained active, collaborating on tracks like “The Other Side of the Street” in 2007 and regularly performing across the UK, including tours with Clem Curtis and Earnestine Pearce. In 2013, they toured with Ben E. King. Despite being 80 years old, James continued to have concert appearances booked into 2021.
