Jim Tamlyn Cheboygan MI Death:- Jim Tamlyn, former Harbor Beach girls basketball coach and educator, passed away unexpectedly at 52.
Tamlyn spent 14 seasons coaching the Pirates and worked as a history and physical education teacher at Harbor Beach Schools before becoming the principal at Cheboygan Intermediate Schools.
His wife, Tracy, described Harbor Beach as their home, noting the deep connections they made there. Harbor Beach Athletic Director Troy Schelke praised Tamlyn as an outstanding coach who cared deeply for his players and was a strong teacher.
Schelke, who worked with Tamlyn, expressed his sadness at the loss and highlighted Tamlyn’s dedication and impact on the community. The Harbor Beach community is mourning the loss of a cherished coach and educator who was known for his passion and commitment.
My thoughts, prayers and sympathy go out to the Tamlyn family, as former Harbor Beach coach Jim Tamlyn passed away over the weekend. He was not only one of my favorite coaches to work with, but one of my favorite people to talk to over my time at the Tribune so far. He did a lot for the Harbor Beach community, and he will certainly be remembered by those that were in his classroom, or were coached by him.
