Felony charges have been brought against the individual who is accused of the incident, which resulted in the death of Jared Barnes, a resident of Glen Ellyn who was 25 years old.
Butterfield Road, close to Scottdale Circle, was the location of the tragic motor vehicle collision. The discovery of Barnes asleep on the roadside at approximately 4:47 in the morning prompted a bystander to call the police and bring them to the site. Barnes was declared dead at the site, despite the prompt attempts of emergency personnel to respond to the situation.
The hunt for the vehicle that was involved in the crash was immediately set in motion by the authorities. A man named Miguel Angel Abrego-Abrego, who was 26 years old and lived in Aurora, was taken into custody as a result of their efforts.
Abrego-Abrego has been charged with being a Class 1 felony for fleeing the scene of an accident that resulted in the death of another person. He is also facing citations for driving a motor vehicle without insurance and failing to moderate his speed in order to avoid an accident, in addition to this serious charge on his record.
It has been determined that the vehicle that is thought to have struck Barnes was a Hyundai Sonata, which displayed considerable damage to the front end of the vehicle. Around a short time after the collision, the wrecked vehicle was discovered in a subdivision that was nearby.
In order to provide assistance with the investigation, the Metropolitan Emergency Response and Investigative Response Team (MERIT) was dispatched. Additionally, Butterfield Road in the eastbound direction was shut down for a number of hours while law enforcement investigators collect evidence.
The Wheaton police department has not disclosed any additional information regarding the ongoing investigation. On the other hand, the combined efforts of the several local police departments were extremely helpful in locating Abrego-Abrego and his vehicle.
