Jalen Welch Detroit, MI Death – A second individual has died following a tragic shooting at Detroit’s Eastern Market, which occurred during a tailgate party after a Detroit Lions game on Sunday.
The incident has left the community in shock and mourning, as two men lost their lives in what police believe stemmed from a heated altercation.
The shooting took place around 4:30 PM, shortly after the conclusion of the Lions game at Ford Field, drawing thousands of fans into the surrounding area. The popular post-game gathering, typically a festive occasion, quickly turned into a scene of chaos when gunshots rang out near the Eastern Market area.
The two victims of the shooting have been identified as Jalen Welch, a man in his 20s, and Rayshawn Bryant, in his 40s. Welch was rushed to the hospital after being critically injured but succumbed to his injuries later that night. Bryant was pronounced dead at the scene, his life cut short in the midst of a celebratory event.
Detroit Police Chief James White held a press conference following the incident, expressing his condolences to the families of the victims and vowing to bring justice to those affected.
“This is a devastating incident, and our hearts go out to the families of the victims. We will work tirelessly to investigate and ensure the person responsible is held accountable for their actions,” White stated.
The altercation that led to the shooting reportedly broke out among several individuals in the tailgating crowd. The suspect, identified as a man in his 30s from Oak Park, Michigan, is now in custody and faces multiple charges, including two counts of homicide.
