Jalen Latrell Allen Death – A shooting at the Alight Apartments in Cayce, South Carolina, on Monday afternoon claimed the life of one person and left another injured.
The Cayce Police Department responded to the scene around 4:00 PM after receiving reports of gunshots at 800 Alexander Drive. What they discovered was a harrowing situation that has since left the community reeling.
Upon arrival, officers found 22-year-old Jalen Latrell Allen of Columbia suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to his upper body. Allen was rushed to a local hospital for emergency treatment, but despite the best efforts of medical personnel, he succumbed to his injuries.
An autopsy is scheduled for September 12th at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) in Charleston, which will provide further insight into the circumstances surrounding his death.
Police have reason to believe that the shooting was an isolated incident, reassuring residents that there is no immediate threat to their safety. However, as a precaution, all entrances to the Alight Apartments complex were temporarily blocked off by authorities. Residents were required to show identification to enter the premises, a measure taken to ensure that no further threats remained in the area.
In addition to the tragic death of Jalen Allen, the shooting led to another casualty in a bizarre chain of events. According to a statement from Alight Apartments, at least one gunshot struck the driver of a vehicle parked in the area. The driver, presumably wounded, lost control of their vehicle and struck another individual within the parking lot.
While authorities have confirmed the involvement of this second individual, their condition remains unknown at this time. Cayce Police have not yet released details about the identity of this person or the extent of their injuries.
As of now, the Cayce Police Department is continuing its investigation into the incident. They have yet to announce any arrests or identify suspects involved in the shooting. However, law enforcement officials are urging anyone with information that could be relevant to the case to come forward.
