Hillsdale County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Death – A routine traffic stop turned tragic on Thursday afternoon when a deputy with the Hillsdale County Sheriff’s Office was involved in an officer-involved shooting at the intersection of Beecher and Lamb Roads.

The incident occurred around 2:20 pm when the deputy pulled over a vehicle for a traffic violation. During the stop, the situation escalated, resulting in the deputy being shot.

Immediate medical assistance was requested, and the deputy was rushed to the hospital with at least one gunshot wound. Lifeflight was called in to aid in the emergency transport.

The deputy, whose name is being withheld until all family members are notified, was later confirmed deceased by Hillsdale County Sheriff Scott Hodshire.

The Michigan State Police (MSP) verified that the deputy succumbed to his injuries, marking a devastating loss for the Hillsdale County Sheriff’s Office and the community it serves. Following the shooting, an extensive manhunt ensued for the suspect, identified as Eric Fiddler.

Law enforcement personnel conducted a thorough search of the surrounding area, ultimately locating Fiddler in a nearby field. According to the MSP, Fiddler fired upon the officers, who returned fire, resulting in his death.

The community is mourning the loss of a dedicated officer who gave his life in the line of duty. Further details regarding the incident and the deputy’s condition will be released as the investigation continues.
