H.C. “Sonny” Hansford Obituary, Death – H.C. “Sonny” Hansford, Jr., a beloved figure of Gloucester and a man of vibrant spirit, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 4, 2023, at the age of 81. Known for his vibrant personality and diverse pursuits, Sonny’s legacy extends far beyond his remarkable career and into the hearts of all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
As a native of York County, Sonny crafted a life rich in adventure and purpose. He served as a civil servant with the National Parks Service, dedicating himself to public service, and later found success as a business owner, steering Hog Barn Cycles to prominence. His commitment to both his career and his entrepreneurial endeavors reflected his dedication and passion.
Sonny was a man of many facets, embracing life’s joys with unwavering enthusiasm. He possessed a contagious sense of humor, known for his knack for telling jokes that would brighten anyone’s day. His love for motorcycles was evident in both his work and leisure time, where he delighted in fixing, riding, and immersing himself in the freedom of the open road.
Beyond his professional and recreational pursuits, Sonny found solace and fulfillment in tending to his farm. The connection to the land and the tranquility it provided held a special place in his heart, offering him a haven where he could revel in the simple joys of life.
In remembrance of Sonny, he is preceded in death by his parents, Edna Hudgins and Herbert “Shanghai” Hansford, Sr., his sister Julie Tyler, and brothers William “Billy” and Robert Earl Hansford. His memory lives on through his brother, Joe Hansford, sisters Dale and Kim, and his children, Duane, Stephen, Jason, and Linda. Additionally, he leaves behind 12 cherished grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, and a multitude of dear friends and family members who were touched by his presence.
A celebration of Sonny’s life, honoring his legacy and the impact he made, will be held at a later date.
