Gavin Rohrbach Union H.S senior died, Keegan Brooks, 3 others hurt in car accident near Jesup; La Porte City mourn – GoFundMe, Mealtrain

Gavin Rohrbach Union High School Car Accident: Dysart and La Porte City, Iowa communities are mourning after a devastating car accident left one teenager dead and three others injured on Tuesday.

A 17-year-old male passed away following the car crash that happened near Jesup, Iowa.

According to law enforcement, the teenagers involved in the crash were students of Union High School in La Porte City. Union High School Senior, Gavin Rohrbach died at the scene of the incident.

According to the Black Hawk County Sheriff’s Office, the car accident happened at the intersection of Dubuque Road and South Canfield Road near 9:45 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2024.

According to the school, the students were returning from a volleyball game between Oelwein and Union in Jesup. A preliminary investigation determined that two vehicles were involved in the incident, one of the cars was carrying 5 juveniles.

According to law enforcement, four of the juvenile passengers were transported to the hospital in stable condition, while Rohrbach was confirmed dead at the scene.

Authorities say a female adult from the second vehicle was life-flighted to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in serious condition. “On September 10th, 2024, Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the intersection of Dubuque Road and South Canfield Road for a report of a 2 vehicle accident at approximately 9:45 p.m.

Upon arriving it was determined that a Nissan Pathfinder SUV was traveling southbound on South Canfield Road and ran the stop sign at Dubuque, colliding with a Buick Rendezvous SUV in the intersection,” Black Hawk County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.

5 juvenile passengers were in the Nissan SUV, and one was pronounced deceased at the scene. The remaining occupants were all assessed or transported for non-life-threatening injuries.

A GoFundMe was started for the family of Keegan Brooks (one of the injured students.) “As most know, Keegan Brooks, along with 4 others, was involved in a horrible car accident last night. He was taken to Iowa City where he is recovering from his injuries. He has a long road ahead of him, and I want to make sure Amanda and the family have what they need for gas, food, and other expenses while Keegan heals. If you feel the need to help, I’ll be collecting donations to send with the family. At this point, monetary would be best, as they don’t know how long he’ll be at the hospital.”

Union Community School District Statement
“Dear Union Families: It is with tremendous sadness that I share this update with you. Last night, multiple Union students were involved in an auto accident returning from the volleyball game at Oelwein. One of the individuals, Gavin Rohrbach, Class of 2025, died at the scene of the accident. The other students have varying injuries. Words can’t readily express the devastation this news has had on our school community, especially the students and staff.

Additional counseling staff, provided by Central Rivers AEA, are on school sites today to assist any students or staff who may need extra support in processing this terrible news. We ask that you keep the impacted families, as well as our entire Knight community, in your thoughts during this extraordinarily difficult time,” Union Community School District Superintendent John Howard said in a statement on Wednesday.

Medical units from Jesup Fire and Ambulance, Dunkerton Ambulance, and Waterloo Fire Ambulance all assisted with medical treatment of subjects at the scene. The accident remains under investigation by the Black Hawk County Sheriff’s Office.”
