Law enforcement agencies were called on Sept. 14 to the scene of a “train crash” in the area of 291 Talmadge Hill Road, the train station’s address. An 11:57 p.m. service alert from Metro-North Railroad describes a “person being struck”.
STUDENT-ATHLETE DEATH: The New Canaan community is mourning the sudden death of high school senior Elliott Kropf, who died last night. Superintendent Bryan Luizzi released a statement today:
“Elliott was a strong student, an excellent athlete, a kind young man, and a wonderful friend, and he will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. Such unimaginable loss is difficult to process, and we want to ensure that our students, staff, and families have access to the support they need during this difficult time.
Additionally, NCHS will operate on a two-hour delay schedule tomorrow (9/16). All buses will run at their regular times, and the NCHS schedule of classes will begin at 10:00. This will provide time for Elliott’s friends to gather together in support and love, and, if desired, speak with our dedicated counselors and staff. Counselors will also be available throughout the day tomorrow and in the coming days, and I encourage you to reach out anytime if we can be of assistance to you, your family, or someone else in need. My heart breaks for Elliott, his family, and all who knew and loved him. Together, let’s keep them all in our thoughts and prayers as we support one another during this challenging time.”
The New Canaan service was suspended in both directions due to a fatal personal event involving a train at Talmadge Hill Station. Police and transit officials did not immediately provide details on the event. New Canaan Police confirmed to NewCanaanite.com that the MTA Police Department is launching an inquiry.
A message to Metro-North Railroad was not immediately returned. Flowers and love messages were observed late Sunday next to a utility pole near the train tracks across from the station platform. Please call 988 if you are contemplating suicide.
