Her loss is a traumatic and tragic event for her family, friends, and the entire Elana’s Pantry community.
Elana was a creative beacon dedicated to helping others and making the world a better place. Her entrepreneurial spirit led her to establish two groundbreaking companies that embodied the principle of doing well by doing good.
In 1993, she founded Ecosav, a pioneering organization that brought recycling programs to commercial establishments in New York City. Her work not only contributed to environmental sustainability but also helped businesses reduce waste expenses. For her contributions, she was honored as one of the city’s 40 under 40.
In 2006, Elana founded Elana’s Pantry, a platform that provides simple, healthy, gluten-free, and grain-free recipes, along with extensive health and wellness advice. Her passion for healthy living resonated with millions of people worldwide.
She also authored three cookbooks, one of which became a New York Times bestseller. Beyond her culinary contributions, she invested in innovative companies dedicated to health and wellness, including Primal Kitchen, LMNT, Kettle & Fire, Wellness, Magic Spoon, SteadyMD, Serenity Kids, and Beekeeper’s Naturals.
Elana’s commitment to giving back was evident through her support of numerous charitable organizations, such as the Pesticide Action Network, Not Putting on a Shirt, Tulane Medical School, Boulder Community Hospital, Baby2Baby, Castleman’s Disease Collaborative Network, and The Anti-Recidivism Fund. Additionally, she co-founded the Katz Amsterdam Foundation, furthering her mission of creating positive change.
A fierce advocate for women’s health, Elana dedicated her efforts to eliminating biases within the medical system and promoting systemic change. Despite the challenges she faced in her own life, she remained unwavering in her goal to “save the world,” a dream she shared with her parents at the age of 22.
Elana Amsterdam will be profoundly missed. She is survived by her loving husband and two sons, as well as her parents and sister. During this difficult time, the family requests privacy as they grieve the loss of their beloved Elana.
