Domestic Violence in Vermont – One man was fatally stabbed and another man was shot to death during an apparent case of domestic violence Sunday inside a St. Johnsbury, Vt., home that left two other people hurt, Vermont State Police said in a press release.
Officials identified the two victims as 21-year-old Ben Lyons and 42-year-old Nicholas Johnson. Both deaths were ruled homicides, the release stated.
“Lyons died Sunday afternoon at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, New Hampshire,” officials said. The New Hampshire Chief Medical Examiner’s Office said his cause of death was a “stab wound to the neck.”
Johnson was found dead at the scene Sunday morning, officials said. The New Hampshire Chief Medical Examiner’s Office identified “his cause of death as a gunshot wound.”
Lyons was a resident at the home 16 Cottage St., where the deadly altercation happened and Johnson was recently living in the St. Johnsbury area, officials said.
Authorities identified the two injured residents as 33-year-old Patrick Mayhew and 44-year-old Jennifer Bradley. Bradley is Mayhew’s wife, Lyons’ mother and Johnson’s former partner, officials said.
“Mayhew suffered serious but non-life threatening knife wounds,” officials said. He was treated at Dartmouth Hitchcock and discharged late Sunday. “Bradley received minor injuries and was not hospitalized,” officials said. Two children between the ages of 12 and 18 years old were also in the home at the time of the incident, but were not physically harmed, officials said.
“The family’s two dogs, Wilson and Sage, also were attacked,” officials added. “Wilson died at a local animal hospital and Sage remains in critical condition at a canine trauma center in Massachusetts.” Police said they have “identified the parties involved in this incident” and that “there is no threat to the public.”
No further information is available at the moment, police said. This incident is still under investigation.
