Denzel Ayers Charged After 29-Year-Old Woman Died in Akron Due to An Accidental Shooting Involving a Mishandled Firearm
Akron police swiftly responded to a report of gunfire in the 900 block of Stadelman Avenue around 11:30 p.m. on Friday night.
Arriving at the scene, officers discovered a woman outside a residence, sustaining a gunshot wound.
Reportedly, the accidental discharge of a firearm also injured a 31-year-old man, Denzel Ayers, identified as the individual responsible for the unintended shot.
The victim was rushed to an area hospital but was pronounced dead by the authorities, withholding her name pending ongoing investigations.
Initial inquiries indicate that the victim occupied the driver’s seat in a vehicle, accompanied by passengers, among whom was the 31-year-old man situated in the rear of the car.
According to police statements, the man mishandled a loaded firearm, causing it to discharge, grazing his leg and tragically hitting the victim.
Ayers faces charges of negligent homicide and handling firearms while under the influence.
