“It is with very heavy hearts we announce the sudden passing of Denise Gagne. She was diagnosed with cancer earlier this year. She fought her battle with unwavering courage and strength until the end. On February 23rd, Denise Gagne passed away in Red Deer, Alberta, Canada surrounded by her family.

Denise used to laugh, saying the four scariest words from her were “I have an idea.” Yet, those ideas brought to life the Musicplay curriculum, aimed at supporting teachers globally. Her dedication to evolving Musciplay, taking it online as MusicplayOnline, and the various workshops she led will be her lasting impact in elementary education.”

“Most importantly, Denise created a beautiful family with her husband Ken, and children Allyson, Stacy and Bryan, and her extended family that included the remarkable staff of MusicplayOnline, of which I consider myself a part. Denise always tried to encourage every teacher and student and frankly, every writer too.

The day before she passed I saw a short message she sent to a teacher who had a question about whether or not she could do something. Denise’s response was perfectly Denise. “Of course you can!” That was truly the spirit of our friend Denise Gagne. “Of course you can!” Denise, in your honor, we promise, we will try. Denise will always be a part of us as her music lives on and she will always hold a warm spot in the hearts of all who benefitted from her remarkable time on this planet. ”

Armed with degrees in music and education, Denise’s pedagogical prowess was complemented by Level 3 training in both Kodály and Orff methodologies, positioning her as a beacon of excellence within the field.
