Daniyjah Staple Death, George Dorris-Rodgers Obituary – Two people were fatally shot early this morning in the parking lot of an apartment complex.
Police responded to the scene in the 2000 block of Cynthia Drive shortly after midnight. A group of people had gathered in the parking lot when gunfire erupted.
An 18-year-old woman, identified as Daniyjah Staple, and a 18-year-old George Dorris-Rodgers were struck multiple times. Both victims were transported to a local hospital where they later died.
In addition to the two fatalities, a 25-year-old woman suffered a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to her arm, and a 15-year-old boy sustained a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to his leg. Both victims are currently hospitalized in stable condition.
As of Sunday morning, no arrests have been made in connection with the shooting. The incident comes on the heels of another shooting at a Champaign popup party that injured two women.
