Christopher Plowman of Tiffin, Iowa man dead in drowning at Iowa City golf course

Christopher Plowman Death – A Johnson County man is dead after drowning at an Iowa City golf course on Wednesday, Aug. 14, according to a news release.

Officials responded to the Pleasant Valley Golf Course around 1:30 p.m. after a caller reported a drowning at one of the course’s ponds. First responders said they found the victim fully submerged in the pond and trapped under maintenance equipment.

The victim, who has been identified as 38-year-old Christopher Plowman of Tiffin, was recovered from the pond and declared deceased at the scene. The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office is investigating this incident.

A 4-year-old boy died in an accidental drowning at a backyard swimming pool in Manteca earlier this week, police said.

Officers responded to the home Monday just before 11:30 a.m. after the child’s mother found him unresponsive in the pool, police said. Officers and medics were unable to revive the boy with CPR and the child was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The child’s mother and brother had been home and unaware the child had gone into the backyard near the pool, police said.

“These incidents are devastating for the family and traumatic for the first responders involved. Please respect the family’s privacy during this time of grieving,” police said in a statement.
