Bodmin Murder Update – A carpenter, Jake Hill, has been sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 28 years for a fatal stabbing outside the Eclipse nightclub in Bodmin, Cornwall.

The incident occurred shortly after 3 a.m. on April 30 last year, resulting in the tragic death of Michael Riddiough-Allen, 32, who intervened to protect others.

The Violent Altercation
Truro Crown Court heard that Hill, 25, armed with a serrated hunting knife, engaged in a fight involving 15 people outside the nightclub, stabbing four individuals within a span of 20 seconds. Riddiough-Allen intervened in an attempt to shield others from harm but was fatally stabbed by Hill.

Legal Proceedings
During the trial, Hill claimed self-defense, but the jury unanimously convicted him of one count of murder and four counts of wounding with intent. Additionally, Tia Taylor, 22, admitted charges of manslaughter and perverting the course of justice, while Chelsea Powell, 22, was convicted of perverting the course of justice.

Sentencing and Tributes
Mrs. Justice Cutts, presiding over the case, sentenced Hill to life imprisonment, emphasizing the dangers of carrying knives in public spaces. She paid tribute to Riddiough-Allen as a man of exceptional qualities who bravely intervened despite recognizing the threat posed by Hill’s weapon.

The tragic incident underscored the devastating consequences of knife violence, with Riddiough-Allen’s family and friends remembering him as a selfless individual who prioritized the safety of others.

Detective Inspector Ilona Rosson from Devon and Cornwall Police emphasized the irreversible damage caused by knife crime, urging the public to recognize the inherent risks and refrain from carrying weapons.
