Anthony Coletta Obituary – Anthony Coletta, a caring and gifted surgeon and President of the Blue Sky Surgical Team has passed away suddenly. He was announced dead through social media publications.
Dr. Anthony Coletta also known as “Tony” was a resident of Radnor, Pennsylvania. No cause of death was reported. He was very smart, personable, and approachable, worked very hard, competitive, and had great energy and spirit.
Tony spent years leading surgical teams in Haiti providing much-needed medical care. In 2023, he helped forge a partnership with Serving at the Crossroads to bring a surgical team to the Manos Amigas Clinic.
Tony Coletta, MD, MBA, knew he wanted to be a doctor since he was very young. He would go to the hospital with his dad, who was a pathologist, and hang out with him. While a student at Georgetown University, Dr. Coletta went to medical school and did his residency at Thomas Jefferson Medical College.
He then joined the medical staff at Bryn Mawr Hospital. Dr. Coletta made a lot of progress in the field of healthcare in the Philadelphia area. He is known as a pioneer in the development of laparoscopic surgery, which is a type of surgery that hurts the patient as little as possible.
In 1990, he did the first laparoscopic removal of an appendix and the first laparoscopic removal of a colon in the Philadelphia area. Philly Magazine named him one of the best doctors in the area in 2009. After 25 years as a surgeon, Dr. Coletta realized that his job wasn’t the only thing that made him who he was. He made the change.
After getting his Executive MBA from Fox School, Dr. Coletta’s first job outside of being a doctor was as chief medical officer and executive vice president at Holy Redeemer.
In 2013, he started working for Independence Blue Cross. There, he helped build Tandigm Health, which is now a fully owned part of Independence and where he is President and CEO.
Dr. Coletta has seen the healthcare field change over the years. Dr. Coletta says that healthcare that is given at the right time, by the right doctors, and for the right price is what the future holds.
He has what he calls a “big, hairy, audacious goal” of making care easier to get. When he’s not fixing problems in healthcare, Dr. Coletta has been kind by giving his time and money to others. At Fox, a business school that he says has changed his life, his family has set up the Coletta Family Scholarship Fund.
