Amherst Shooting Investigations: Officer hurt, suspect barricade in Amherst, WI

Officers from the Stevens Point Police Department and the Portage County Sheriff’s Office are responding to the scene of a barricaded shooter in Amherst, WI, on Thursday. Residents have been urged to lock all doors and windows and stay secure in place due to the incident.

One officer has been transported to a hospital with a gunshot wound. The police-involved shooting is under investigation. The Stevens Point Police Chief Robert Kussow informed the community to stay inside their homes and away from windows.

The authorities are asking everyone to stay inside their homes and avoid the 400 block of Mill Street in Amherst. The Portage County Sheriff’s Office will provide more information as soon as it becomes available.

On Thursday night, several police agencies are working together in the Amherst area to serve a warrant to apprehend a wanted person who they believe is armed and dangerous.
