Amaad Arana Motorcycle Accident – A tragic motorcycle accident claimed the life of 19-year-old Amaad Arana on Saturday night in Hopkins Village.
Arana was on his way to meet friends at a nightclub when he was struck and killed by an SUV while turning into the entrance of the Uno Service Station near Savannah View Restaurant on the Hopkins access road.
The heartbreaking incident was witnessed by one of Arana’s brothers, Raheem Casimiro, who was already at the nightclub with friends. Casimiro recalls the moment he saw the accident without realizing it was his brother involved.
“We saw everything,” Casimiro shared. “We reached down there, not knowing it was Amaad. When I saw his face, I went under the vehicle for him and picked him up. I told him to stay with me, but I knew he was already gone.”
Amaad Arana was a beloved member of the community, remembered for his passion for sports and his energetic spirit. Hopkins Village Chairman, Macario Augustine, spoke of Arana’s contributions to local athletics, noting, “He was always full of energy and respectable. He was always engaged in sports in the community.”
The accident occurred in an area known for speeding, prompting Augustine to call for immediate action to prevent further tragedies. “We did request some speed bumps within the village, but we’re still waiting. It’s time to install those bumps, especially in areas with businesses like this one,” Augustine emphasized.
Arana, who was a passenger on the motorcycle, was hit when the SUV attempted to overtake them as they turned. The motorcycle driver, Keegan Martinez, survived the crash with non-life-threatening injuries and is expected to recover.
The loss of Amaad Arana has left the Hopkins Village community grieving, as they remember a young man full of life, love for sports, and respect for his community. Meanwhile, efforts continue to ensure the roads are safer to prevent another devastating incident.
