Adam Herman Missing: Adam was last seen in Towanda, Kansas, maybe in the late spring or summer of 1999.

He lived at Pine Ridge Mobile Home Park with his adoptive parents, Douglas Raymond “Doug” Herrman and Valerie Janelle Herrman. Photographs of them are included in this case narrative.

Adam was taken from his birth parents and placed in the Herrmans’ care at the age of two, along with his two younger brothers, and they ultimately adopted him. He was homeschooled, although his younger siblings went to public school.

Doug and Valerie later reported that Adam ran away from home in the first week of May 1999, after Valerie spanked him with a belt. They claimed they were hesitant to report him missing because they feared they would get in trouble with the authorities for hitting him and potentially have their other children taken away. (Adam spent two days in a children’s home in 1996 when Valerie spanked him with a belt, causing bruises.)
